East Kootenays: Revelstoke, Golden, Radium, Invermere, Kimberley, Cranbrook, Fernie

Central Kootenays: Creston, Salmo, Nelson, Kaslo, New Denver, Nakusp

West Kootenays: Trail, Castlegar, Rossland, Grand Forks

And all the smaller communities in between.

  • Kimberley Alpine Resort: Great for all levels of skiing and riding and amazing on mountain accommodations. Kimberley has a unique and cool culture with a fun vibe! This resort will surprise expert skiiers with some really great challenging terrain, but also offers a lot of groomers and beautiful glade skiing.

  • Fernie Ski Resort: Closer to the Calgary International Airport, Great on mountain accomodation, Fernie is known for its powder bowls.

  • Kicking Horse Mountain Resort: Known for champaign powdern it is closer to Lake Louise and Banff, it offers steep terrain and stunning views.

  • Revelstoke Mountain One of the more popular ski destinations with the highest vertical drop in the region, this resort offers a wide variety of accommodations and activities.

  • Panorama mountain resort A fantastic adventure for the whole family, it offers extensive grooming and great on mountain accommodation.


There are other smaller mountains that offer a great experience in the kootenays, these hidden gems include: Fairmont Hot Springs Ski Resort, Phoenix Mountain Ski Area, Summit Lake ski and snowboard area, Salmo ski hill and Wapiti Ski Club


For Cross country skiiers, there is the Nelson Nordic Club, Kimberley Nordic Trails,Black Jack ski club Rossland, Nipika Mountain Resort in Radium, Kaslo Nordic Ski Area, Castlegar Nordic Ski Club and Arrow Lakes cross country ski club


For the really adventurous, there is back country skiing, heli-ski, and cat ski tours throughout the region with a variety of huts, and tours... more to come on this.
